Frequently asked questions
Does converting JPG to PNG make the picture better?
No. The JPG already lost some detail when it was saved, and PNG cannot bring it back. What PNG does is stop any further loss each time you save the file again.
Why is the PNG so much bigger?
PNG keeps every pixel exactly, and photos have millions of slightly different pixels. A photo as PNG is often several times larger than the JPG.
Will the PNG have a transparent background?
No. A JPG has no transparency, so the PNG is a full rectangle. Removing a background needs an editing program.
When is PNG the right choice?
Use it for graphics you will edit again, for tools that reject JPG, or when you want to avoid another round of lossy saving. For sharing photos, JPG is smaller.
Are my photos sent anywhere?
No. The conversion happens on your device inside the browser.
