Big PDFs are awkward. You may only need page 3 of a bank statement, one chapter of a manual, or the signature page of a contract. Sending the whole file is slow, wastes data and may share more than you intended. The answer is to split the PDF and keep only what you need.

What “split” really means

People use the word in two ways:

  1. Extract pages. Keep only some pages of the file and make a new, smaller PDF.
  2. Cut into parts. Break the file into several PDFs, for example one per page or one per ten pages.

Our Split PDF tool does both.

Extract only the pages you need

  1. Open the Split PDF page and tap the box to choose your PDF.
  2. The tool shows the number of pages in your file.
  3. Keep “Keep only some pages” selected.
  4. In “Pages to keep”, type the pages you want.
  5. Tap Split PDF and then Download.

How to type the page numbers

Use numbers, commas and dashes:

You type You get
3 Page 3 only
1-4 Pages 1, 2, 3 and 4
1-3, 7 Pages 1, 2, 3 and 7
5- Page 5 to the last page
8, 2, 4 Pages 8, 2 and 4, in that order

The new PDF follows the order you type. That means you can reorder pages a little at the same time. If you type a page that does not exist, the tool tells you how many pages the file has.

Cut a long file into several PDFs

Choose “Split into several files”. Then set Pages per file.

  • Type 1 to get one PDF for every page.
  • Type 10 to get a new PDF for each group of ten pages. The last file holds whatever is left.

You receive all the files together in one ZIP, which is easier to download than dozens of separate files. For smaller results, you can also open the list and download single files one at a time.

Each file gets a clear name based on your original, such as “report-part-02-pages-11-20.pdf”.

Real-life examples

Sending one page of a statement. Type the page number and send only that page. This keeps the rest of your financial details private.

Submitting a form with a limit on pages. If the portal accepts only a few pages, extract just those.

Sharing a chapter. Type the page range of the chapter and share only that.

Separating scanned documents. If you scanned several documents into one long PDF, cut it up with “Pages per file” or type each range one by one.

After you split

Will anything change in the pages?

No. Pages are copied exactly. Text stays selectable, images keep their quality, and links inside the pages stay as they were. The output file is usually smaller, because it holds fewer pages.

Is my file safe?

The tool runs in your browser. The file stays on your device and is never uploaded. That matters if the PDF contains private information.

What if the PDF is protected?

If the PDF has a password or restrictions, a browser tool cannot open it. Remove the protection in the program that created the PDF, save a new copy, and use that copy.

Common mistakes

  • Counting printed page numbers. The tool uses the position of the page in the file, not the number printed on the page. If a book starts with ten pages of introduction, printed page 1 might be file page 11. Check the position in the PDF viewer.
  • Using spaces and dots. Stick to commas and dashes. “1.3” is not understood, but “1-3” is.

Tips for large files

Very large PDFs can use a lot of memory on older phones. If the tool says your device ran out of memory, close other apps and tabs, or try on a computer. Splitting into smaller parts first (for example 50 pages each) often helps.

Quick checklist

  1. Know which pages you need.
  2. Check the page position in the viewer.
  3. Extract or cut.
  4. Open the result and look at every page.
  5. Keep the original file.

Splitting takes seconds and gives you a smaller, safer and easier file to share.

Try it now

Keep just the pages you need, or cut the document into several smaller files. Your files never leave your device.
