Frequently asked questions

Which types can I convert from and to?

You can open MP3, M4A and AAC, WAV, OGG and OPUS, FLAC, WebM and the sound of MP4 and MOV videos. You can save as MP3, M4A, WAV and, in browsers that can write it, OGG. AMR, an old phone recording type, is not supported.

Which type should I choose?

MP3 plays almost everywhere, so it is the safe choice. M4A is a little smaller at the same quality. WAV is not compressed, so it is large but has no further loss. OGG with Opus is small and good for speech.

What do mono and the sample rate do?

Mono mixes two channels into one and makes the file smaller, which suits voice. The sample rate is how many times per second the sound is measured: 22,050 Hz is fine for speech, 44,100 Hz is the standard for music and 48,000 Hz is common in video.

Can I convert many files at once?

Yes. Add as many as you like. They are converted one after another, and you get a ZIP. If one file cannot be read, the others are still converted and the page names the one that failed.

Does converting lose quality?

Going from one compressed type to another, such as M4A to MP3, adds a small loss, so pick a higher quality such as 192 or 256 kbps. Going to WAV adds none, but the file is big. Your originals are never changed.

Where does the converting happen?

No upload takes place. Everything runs inside your browser, on your device. Your recordings and music never go to our servers or anyone else.
