Frequently asked questions

Can I join different types of files?

Yes. You can mix MP3, M4A, WAV, OGG, OPUS and the other types the site reads. Files with a different sample rate or a different number of channels are matched automatically, so the joined file plays at one steady speed and pitch.

What is the difference between a gap and a crossfade?

A gap puts a little silence, from half a second to five, between two files. A crossfade lets the end of one file fade out while the start of the next fades in, so they overlap. Use a gap for separate pieces such as stories, and a crossfade for music.

What does Match the volume do?

It measures how loud each file is and raises or lowers each one towards the same level, without letting loud parts clip. Tick it when one recording is much quieter than another. Leave it off to keep every file exactly as it is.

How do I change the order?

Use the up and down arrows beside each file, or drag a file to a new place in the list. The Listen to each file section below shows the same order, with a player for every file.

How many files can I join?

There is no fixed limit. The files are read in small pieces, so many long files do not fill the memory. A very long joined file takes a while on a phone, so keep the screen on and the tab open.

Are my files uploaded?

No. They are joined inside your browser, on your device, and never sent to our servers or anyone else.
