Mute a video
Remove the sound from a video. The picture is not touched or re-encoded, so it takes seconds and the quality stays exactly the same.

Choose a video to remove its sound.
The picture is copied exactly as it is, with no new compression, so the quality does not change. The way the video is turned (portrait or landscape) is kept.

This tool runs entirely in your browser. Nothing is uploaded to a server, so your documents and photos stay private. It is free, has no watermark and needs no sign-up.
Frequently asked questions
Does the picture lose quality?
No. The picture is copied into a new file without being decoded or encoded again, so every frame stays exactly as it was. Only the sound track is left out.
Why is it so fast?
Because nothing is re-encoded. The tool copies the picture data and leaves the sound out. Even a long video takes seconds, limited mostly by how fast your phone can read and write the file.
Does it work on videos my browser cannot play?
Often yes. The tool does not decode the picture, so it can mute videos your browser cannot play, such as some HEVC iPhone videos. It cannot write codecs that the MP4 or WebM format here does not support, and it then tells you.
Can I lower the volume instead of muting?
Not in this tool. It only removes the sound. To keep a quieter sound you would need to change the sound track and encode it again, which this page does not do.
Will it keep the portrait shape and the length?
Yes. The way the video is turned and its length are kept. MP4, MOV and M4V files come out as MP4, and WebM stays WebM.
Is my video uploaded?
No. The video is read and rewritten inside your browser, on your device. It never goes to our servers or anyone else.
