Frequently asked questions
MP3 or M4A: which should I choose?
MP3 plays on almost every device and app. M4A (AAC sound) is usually a little smaller for the same quality and is the fastest to make, because many videos already hold AAC sound that can be copied out without any change. Choose MP3 when an app or device asks for MP3, and M4A otherwise.
Does the sound lose quality?
M4A copied from AAC sound loses nothing. Making an MP3 encodes the sound again, which is lossy, so it cannot be better than the original. Higher numbers (192 or 320 kbps) keep more detail and make bigger files.
Can I take just a part of the sound?
Yes. Type a start and an end time, such as 0:30 and 1:45. Leave them empty to take everything.
What if the video has no sound?
The page tells you as soon as you choose the video, because there is nothing to take out. Some screen recordings and silent clips have no sound track.
Which videos and phones work?
MP4, MOV from an iPhone, M4V, 3GP and WebM in a recent Chrome, Edge, Samsung Internet or Safari. The browser must be able to read the sound of the video; the page tells you when it cannot.
Is my video uploaded?
No. The sound is taken out and encoded inside your browser, on your device. The video never goes to our servers or anyone else.
