WAV to MP3
WAV files are huge because they keep every detail. An MP3 is far smaller, so it sends faster and fits in an email.

Frequently asked questions
How much smaller will the file be?
A WAV takes about 10 MB for each minute of CD quality sound. The same minute as a 128 kbps MP3 is under 1 MB, and as a 320 kbps MP3 about 2.4 MB. The page shows the expected size before you start.
Is anything lost?
Yes, a little. MP3 removes sounds that are hard to hear, which is why it is small. At 192 kbps or higher most people cannot tell the difference. Keep your WAV if you will edit the sound again.
What quality suits a WAV recording?
For speech such as an interview or a lecture, 96 or 128 kbps is enough. For music, choose 192 or 256 kbps. 320 kbps is the best MP3 quality and makes the largest file.
Can I turn a stereo file into mono?
Yes. Under Channels choose Mono and the two channels are mixed into one, which makes the MP3 smaller. It is a good choice for a voice recording.
What about very long recordings?
Recordings are read in small pieces, so a long WAV does not fill the memory. A two hour file takes a while on a phone, so keep the screen on and the tab open.
Does my WAV recording go to a server?
No. The conversion runs in your browser, on your device, and the file never leaves it.
