Free tool for this guide PDF to PNG → Save PDF pages as sharp PNG images. To convert a PDF to PNG, open the PDF to PNG tool, choose your file, pick the image size, tap Convert to PNG and download the pictures. Each page of the PDF becomes one PNG picture.
You can save a single page or take all of them in one ZIP file. The pages are drawn inside your browser, so your PDF is not uploaded.
What you need
- The PDF on your phone or computer
- An idea of what the pictures are for: a logo or drawing, sharp text for a slide, or an upload to a website that asks for PNG
- About a minute, a little longer for a long PDF
Steps to convert a PDF to PNG
- Open the PDF to PNG tool, tap the box and choose your PDF. The file stays on your device.
- Under Image size, choose Small, Standard, High (sharper text) or Max (large files). The line under the options shows how many pixels the first page will have.
- If you need only some pages, type them in Pages, such as 1-3, 5. Leave it empty to convert every page.
- Tap Convert to PNG. The tool draws the pages one after another and shows a progress bar.
- When it finishes, tap a single page to download just that one, or tap Download all as ZIP.
- Open the first picture and check it. If the text looks too soft, go back, choose a larger size and convert again.
PNG or JPG: which one do you need?
Both turn a page into a picture. They store it in different ways.
- PNG keeps every pixel exactly. Edges of letters and lines stay crisp, with no blur or blotches around them. It can also hold see-through areas. The files are larger.
- JPG makes the file smaller by dropping fine detail. That works well for photos and scans, and less well for sharp text and thin lines.
Choose PNG for pages with text, tables, charts, logos and drawings, or when a website asks for PNG. Choose PDF to JPG for photo pages when a small file matters most. Our guide on JPG, PNG and WebP compares the formats in more detail, and the guide on converting a PDF to JPG covers the other tool.
Which size should I choose?
The size controls how many pixels each picture has. More pixels mean a sharper picture and a bigger file.
- Small. The lightest files. Good for a quick look or a chat message.
- Standard. Good for screens, slides and most uploads.
- High. Sharper small text. Good for pages with fine print or tables.
- Max. The largest files, for printing or for zooming in a lot. A long PDF at this size may be slow on an older phone.
PNG files grow fast with size. A full page at Max has millions of pixels and can be several megabytes. Start with Standard and move up only if you need to.
Keeping a see-through background
Most PDF pages are white, so the picture is white too. A PDF that holds a logo or a drawing may have no page colour at all. For that kind of file, tick Keep the empty parts of the page see-through. The PNG then has clear areas where the page is empty, and you can place it over a coloured slide or a photo.
This does not make white paper clear. If a page is a scan, a photo or has a coloured background, that colour belongs to the page and stays solid. To clear the paper colour of a photographed signature, use the Signature Maker. To cut an object out of a photo, use Remove Background.
Things to know about the result
A PNG is a picture. The text on it can no longer be selected or searched, and links do not work. If you need the words, read them from the picture with Image to Text, or keep the PDF.
Colours stay as they are in the PDF. The pictures are named after your file with the real page number, for example report-page-03.png, so they sort in order.
If the pictures are too big
Many forms limit the size of an upload. First try a smaller image size. If a picture is still too big, Compress Image can make it lighter, and Convert Image can change it to JPG or WebP, which are smaller for photos. If a form wants an exact number of pixels, use Resize Image.
Common problems
The picture looks blurry. Choose High or Max and convert again.
It is slow or stops. A long PDF at a high size needs a lot of memory. Convert fewer pages at a time using the Pages box, or choose Standard.
The PDF will not open. A password-protected PDF cannot be read in the browser. If you know the password, remove it first with Unlock PDF.
The background is not see-through. The page has a background colour or is a scan. Only pages with no colour at all can come out clear.
I cannot find the files. On a phone, check your Downloads folder or your browser’s download list.
Frequently asked questions
Is PNG better than JPG for a PDF page?
For pages with text, charts and logos, yes. PNG keeps the edges crisp. For photo pages, JPG makes a much smaller file with little visible difference. Choose by what the picture is for.
Can I convert only one page?
Yes. Type the page number in the Pages box, for example 4, and convert. You can also type a list such as 1-3, 5.
Why is my PNG so big?
PNG keeps all the detail and does not discard any. Choose a smaller image size, or use PDF to JPG for photos.
Is my PDF uploaded anywhere?
No. The pages are drawn and saved inside your browser, on your device. The PDF and the pictures never go to our servers or anyone else.
Can I make a PDF out of the PNG pictures again?
Yes. PNG to PDF puts pictures back into one PDF.
